The Wall!

Rahul Dravid popularly known as "the wall of indian cricket" and as 'jammie' by his friends was born in a upper middle class family in bangalore on 11th january , 1973 in indore.he later moved on to bangalore where his cricketing life began. He started playing cricket at the age of 12 years. his performance in the interschool tournaments fetched him a place in the duleep trophy. And he went to play the Ranjit trophy along with Kumble and Srinath who were then his ranji trophy mates. He played well at all levels and made his debut in the Indian National Team  in a match against Srilanka at Singapore as a replacement for Vinod Kambli.Though it was not the best starts one would expect for,he thrived hard to establish his name permannetly in the Indian team and he succeeded in doing it.Dravid was once considered a liability in one day format of the game.Later he went on to master that domain bringing in many victories to the nation by his single handed efforts.According to  cricket fraternity ,  a good cricketer is one who brings in victories rather than stacking up records.Dravid was one such kind.( even though Tendulkar holds a insurmountable batting record he is one of the above kind)

Dravid is one of the top ranked batsman in India. Made his test debut at Lords-June 1996.Dravid led India from October 2005 to September 2009.He averages over 50 in test cricket and averages 39.53 in ODI cricket. He is in top 10 test batsmen list for the highest number of centuries.Dravid was once  icc's test player of the year and icc's player for the year .Dravid was a team player which is evident from  his partnerships of 331 with Sachin against Newzealand and another 300  odd runs with Souvrav Ganguly.his highest score in test being 270 and in ODIs is 153.In addition to all these dravids has led us to some epic victories.one would be the India's chase of 326 .He is one player who has saved us lots of test matches by his sound technic and temperament. I personally feel that dravid ,kallis and tendulkar are the most technically sound players .They are an archetype of batting..Inzamam once quoted "give me  a player like Dravid,Ill make pakistan number one.". Such was his reputation during his times.

Dravid led india during 2005-2007.After an early world cup exit he quit his captaincy. And 2007 was not Dravid's year. he lost form and eventually lost his place in ODI side never to get it back again. From then he made only rare appearances in ODIs and was only a test player. After India's disastrous performance aginst England in recent series Dravid was called back to ODI squad..This was when he announced his retirement from ODIs.

Though Dravid ,Laxman,Tendulkar, and Dada were equally good players in their times I personally feel dravid was always eclipsed by sachin and Dada.I wonder why!neither sachin nor ganguly could be blamed..!I seriously feel that dravid was not given the respect he is supposed to have got.even when he retired form ODI he dint recieve a standing ovation.after all 15 years of hard work doesnt he deserve an standing ovation!!

As far as ODIs are concerned the wall is now an monument which the young cricketing fraternity can see and learn!!
